Common Admission Test, (CAT 2013), Indian Institutes of Management, (IIMs)

CAT 2013 or Common Admission Test is the main entrance exam for MBA aspirants to get admission in Top B-Schools of India like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta amongst many others. CAT 2013 will be conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) for admission to various levels of management courses like MBA, PGDM etc.
Apart from the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) located at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Indore, and Kozhikode, CAT 2013 is also a mandatory entrance examination for several other leading management institutes like Kirloskar Institute of Management, S.P. Jain Institute and few others.
Every year more than two lakh students appear for CAT and for CAT 2013, the number is expected to touch around 2.25 Lakh. The competition between CAT aspirants is very tough for IIMs and the other reputed institutes.
CAT aspirants often start preparing for CAT almost one year in advance and prepare themselves by joining various specialized coaching institutes like Career Launcher, TIME, IMS etc.
A CAT 2013 aspirant must hold a Bachelor's Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Persons with Disability (PWD) category) from any recognized University of India. If the aspirant is in the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification and have completed degree requirement and are awaiting results, he/she can also apply.
For some programmes offered by IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and some other premier management institutes, the eligibility criteria is different. Complete information on CAT 2013 Eligibility Criteria is available.
Common Admission Test (CAT 2013) will have only 2 sections
·         Quantitative Ability (QA) & Data Interpretation (DI)
·         Verbal Ability (VA) & Logical Reasoning (LR)
Both the sections will be implemented sequentially with separate time limits.
CAT 2013 will be 140 minutes long. You will get 70 minutes to answer 30 questions within each section which will have an on-screen countdown timer. Once the time ends for the first section, you will have to move to the second section and will no longer be able to go back. So you should review your answers for the 1st section, within the first 70 minutes.
A 15-minute tutorial will be provided before the start of the test, and candidates are advised to go through that carefully before starting the main examination. So including the duration of the tutorial, the total duration of CAT 2013 will be two hours and thirty five minutes.
Access a practice test that has been provided to offer the candidates a feel of the timed sections, as well as navigation and functionality of the actual test. You are advised to go through this practice test carefully to familiarise yourself with the screens, layout, and navigation of CAT 2013.
At the test venue, each candidate will be seated at a desk with a computer terminal and he/she will be provided with a scratch paper for calculations. After the test, candidate must leave the scratch paper at the desk. Rough work cannot be done on any other paper/sheet, as nothing will be allowed inside the testing room. No breaks will be given during the test.
CAT 2013 Application Form
A CAT aspirant has to purchase CAT 2013 voucher from any of the branches of Axis Bank between 29 July – 24 September 2013.
Note: You can only buy one CAT 2013 Voucher irrespective of the number of B-schools you are applying to.
After purchasing the CAT 2013 Voucher, you must log on to the website www.catiim.in to register for CAT 2013. You can register and schedule for the CAT 2013 from 29 July – 26 September 2013.

The CAT 2013 test fees is Rs.1600 for general candidates and Rs.800 for SC and ST candidates.
CAT 2013 will be held across 40 cities in India. This year 4 new test locations have been added - Surat, Udaipur, Trivandrum and Vijayawada.
Some cities may have more than 1 test centres. You can choose any 1 centre according to your convenience. However, IIMs reserve the right to change or cancel any test venue / centre and / or change the test window time and dates at their own discretion.
CAT 2013 results are expected to be announced by  January 2014. CAT 2013 results will be available on www.examresults.net
